HOW TO WASH YOUR TOWELS AND SWIMWEAR?
That’s it, the first rays of sunshine and beautiful days have arrived! The time has come for walks by the sea or discussions with friends by the swimming pool.
Are your bathing suit and towel ready? Like every year, you want your towels and sarongs to stay soft and pretty, no matter how many times you use them (and wash them!).
The fabrics of your belongings are resistant to hours and hours of sun, large amounts of sand, humidity, the effect of salt or the continuous friction of the grass when you are at the swimming pool.
Towels are the first victims of the outdoor swimming season. They gradually lose their colour, but also their softness and suppleness. As for swimsuits; they lose their elasticity and colour.
Is there a trick or technique to keep them in their original state?
Sure!
How to wash beach towels?
Are you also one of those people who likes to tan for hours?
When you get home, follow these tips to make your towels last longer:
- Take your towels out of the beach bag as soon as possible and shake them out to remove any remaining sand or blades of grass. Don’t you have enough energy left to shake them? In this case, use a vacuum cleaner.
- If you were on a sandy beach, it is best to soak your towels in cold water and detergent to remove any small grains that may have stuck to them. It will also eliminate fungicides if you were at the pool.
- Wring it well and check that there are no traces of tanning lotion. In this case, apply a stain remover for coloured clothes.
- Most towels are usually cotton and can go in the washing machine (short cycle at 30º). Using a daily-use detergent that cares for clothes is a good option for continued use like yours. It will also purify your towel and eliminate unpleasant odours.
- To dry it, as you probably already know, you always have to turn it over so that it is not exposed to direct sunlight and its colours do not lose their shine.
New towels
Is that a new towel?
Do a short wash before using it. Never use fabric softener, it’s best to use your favourite scented liquid detergent.
We advise you to wash your towel alone for the first time, without mixing it with the rest of your clothes. This will prevent colour transfer and eliminate lint.
Remember that it is not necessary to wash your towel after each use, it is enough to wash it every third time.
Why is it recommended not to use fabric softener when washing your towels?
To preserve the softness and splendour of beach towels, it is best to wash them with the minimum dose of detergent recommended by the manufacturer.
Most important, however, is not to mix the detergent with any fabric softener. Both of these products can leave a waxy residue on the fabric, which will reduce the absorbency and softness of your towel.
If you want your towels to smell fresh and pleasant, use ascented liquid detergent.
Beach and pool clothing
Do you want to wash your swimsuits and bikinis? It is ALWAYS best to soak your bathing suits in cold water when you get home.
Even if you don’t see any stains, perspiration, salt or chlorine will have left marks between the fibres. If you rinse them with water and let them dry completely before putting them away, your clothes will be spotless.
Sandals, sarongs or beach and pool clothes can usually be machine washed depending on their composition, as you are used to.
Tips for washing bath linen?
Even if you wash your bath linens by hand daily, you should put them in the washing machine at least once a week, or occasionally if you don’t use them every day.
Colour and elasticity! Remember that these are the two most important things. It is better to put your laundry in a cotton bag to wash it. You do not have any? So just use a pillowcase!
With the same care as that reserved for the most fragile clothes, wash your bath linen with a program for delicate clothes and anappropriate detergent . Thus, your fabrics and your skin will be protected.
